Among the staggering number of 65,000 entries from around the world, Alex Dawson was named Underwater Photographer of the Year 2024 for his image titled "Whale Bones," a haunting shot of a free-diver and whale carcass beneath the Greenland ice sheet.
Several other captivating images from the competition, including 'Saving Goliath' by Nuno Sá and 'The Rings of Death by Javier Murcia' highlight the impact of human activity on marine life.
A mesmerizing portrait of a lemon shark in a sanctuary of the Bahamas titled 'Twilight Smile' by Rodolphe Guignard was another notable entry. 'Star Attraction' by Jenny Stock, 'Bottled Blenny' by Kirsty Andrews also received recognition, among others.
The World Economic Forum's Ocean Action Agenda strives to create a healthy and flourishing ocean through protection, restoration, and the enhancement of resilience within coastal and ocean-dependent communities.
