Innovating for the European Green Deal

Through the European Green Deal, the European Union aims to make Europe the first carbon-neutral continent by 2050. Given the latest geopolitical developments, the need to reshape the current energy mix has become even more urgent, requiring the bloc to implement its green transition strategies on a much-accelerated timeline. To strive for economic growth without resource depletion, Europe needs to develop a strong ecosystem for innovation that can help it deliver on its climate commitments while strengthening its energy resilience.

Looking at the intersection between the digital and green transitions and based on consultations with select members of the World Economic Forum’s CEO Action Group for the European Green Deal and the Forum’s Global Innovators community, this white paper looks at the current innovation landscape in Europe and the associated challenges, and explores the steps needed to transform it into an innovation leader.
