Previously served as the Chief Scientist and Executive Vice-President at Salesforce and before that was Chief Executive Officer and Chief Technology Officer of the AI start-up MetaMind, which was acquired by Salesforce in 2016. Received a PhD in Computer Science from Stanford University and is widely recognized as having brought neural networks into the field of natural language processing, as well as inventing the most widely used word vectors, contextual vectors, and prompt engineering. Has more than 190,000 citations and has served as an adjunct professor in the computer science department at Stanford.
