Nikolaj Gilbert

President and Chief Executive Officer, PATH

Nikolaj Gilbert is the President and CEO of PATH, an international nonprofit focused on advancing health equity through innovation and partnerships. Since joining PATH in 2020, Mr. Gilbert has been an advocate for multilateral cooperation, equitable access to vaccines and oxygen, and reimagining the global development financing system. Prior to PATH, he served as Director of Partnerships for the United Nations Office for Project Services where he cultivated a deep understanding of the development ecosystem and of health inequity’s underlying causes. Previously, Mr. Gilbert served as a Director for Novo Nordisk, where he worked in corporate strategy, public-private partnership, business development, global marketing, and finance. Early in his career, he worked in supply chain management for Accenture and performed management research at INSEAD. With more than 25 years of experience spanning the private sector, nonprofits and multilaterals, Mr. Gilbert brings a unique and nuanced perspective to the challenges facing the global health sector.

Mr. Gilbert is currently serving a three-year term on the Board of Trustees for the United Nations Institute for Training and Research and is a member of the Health Inclusivity Index Steering Committee, which assesses the existence and effectiveness of efforts towards health equity. He is also a member of Challenge Seattle, an alliance of CEOs from Seattle area’s largest employers including Microsoft, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Starbucks, and Boeing, which addresses the region’s most pressing civic challenges. In addition, Mr. Gilbert co-founded the Defeat NCD Partnership in 2018, a public-private partnership to enable and assist all low-resource counties to scale-up action on non-communicable diseases.

Mr. Gilbert is a Danish citizen and holds advanced degrees in business administration from Copenhagen Business School in Denmark and Ivey Business School in Canada.
