Michael McCarthy is an Assistant Professor of Data Science and serves as Utica College’s Data Science Program Director. His current research focuses on ethics, bias, and governance in data science. Dr. McCarthy’s professional experience includes serving as a healthcare analyst conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis, demographic analysis, strategic planning, and coaching Lean projects. Before graduate school, Michael served in the U.S. military as a helicopter pilot and concluded his Army tenure as part of a team analyzing global trends that will affect the world and warfare for the next five decades.
Michael received his Bachelor’s of Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point in Geographic Information Science and his Master’s and Doctorate in Philosophy in Geography from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
