How to improve urban health: Lessons from cities around the world

Kieron Boyle OBE is a globally recognised leader in the impact economy.
In 2023, Kieron assumed the role of Chief Executive at the Impact Investing Institute, the UK’s foremost authority on impact investing. The Institute’s mission is to transform capital markets for a fairer, greener, and more resilient future, aiming to mobilise £1 trillion in investments over the next five years to benefit both people and the planet.
From 2016 to 2023, Kieron was the Chief Executive of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation, one of the world’s oldest health foundations. Under his leadership, the Foundation gained international acclaim for pioneering urban health initiatives and transforming its £1 billion investment arm into one of Europe’s leading impact investors.
Kieron’s career has focused on changing systems at scale. He has established numerous influential initiatives, including Big Society Capital, Impact on Urban Health, the Global Steering Group on Impact Investment, the Government Outcomes Lab, and the Arts Impact Fund. He also played a pivotal role in bringing Giving Tuesday and the B-Corp movement to the UK.
Before his roles in the nonprofit sector, Kieron led the UK government’s efforts on social innovation, holding key positions at No.10 Downing Street and the UK Foreign Office. His career began at the Boston Consulting Group in New York.
Kieron is a Governor of the Southbank Centre, Europe’s largest arts centre, and serves on the Board of Better Society Capital. He chairs LIPH, a $7 trillion global alliance of institutional investors focused on health, and is a member of the IPPR cross-party Commission on Health and Prosperity. Kieron’s pioneering efforts in the impact economy have led to him being the first recipient of a national honour for services to the sector, alongside his recognition as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader.
In October 2024, Kieron will become the new CEO and Director of 100x, the world’s largest impact venture accelerator, dedicated to helping visionary entrepreneurs improve the lives of billions of people through innovative, scalable solutions.
