Developing and delivering approaches for how best Government should prepare for and respond to technological disruption and the emergence of new business models is a key plank of this role. 2013, joined the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) as Labour Market Director. Formerly: Home Office’s Crime Director. Since 1992, civil servant; has worked in a wide range of strategy and policy roles at the Department of Employment, the Department for Education and Employment, the Department for Work and Pensions, and the Cabinet Office before joining the Home Office in 2004. Has done secondments to the BIG Lottery Fund and to the BBC. The golden thread through all these diverse roles has been the reform of social and socio-economic policy. Spent some of childhood in India, Singapore and Hong Kong before moving to the UK in 1980. MA from Oxford University. Worked in banking for 2 years before joining the civil service. Commander of the Order of the British Empire (2015).
