Frank van Cappelle is passionate about the potential of technology and AI to transform learning for marginalized children. As UNICEF’s global lead for digital education, he shapes UNICEF’s vision and strategy on digital learning and the digital transformation of education systems.
He co-leads Gateways to Public Digital Learning, an initiative that is jointly led by UNICEF and UNESCO to establish digital learning as a public good. In collaboration with governments and partners, this aims to make digital learning accessible to all, including out-of-school children, children in emergencies and children with disabilities. His team also coordinates UNICEF’s Accessible Digital Learning initiative – a collaboration with UNICEF Disability and Development.
Prior to UNICEF, he worked at UNESCO, in academia and for various other UN agencies. He also founded a tech startup producing data visualization software for governments, UN agencies and research institutions, winning the World Bank’s Apps for Development competition.
He has a PhD in Education.
