Caryle Murphy

Senior Writer and Editor, Pew Research Centre

Caryle Murphy is a senior writer and editor at Pew Research Center, where she helps produce survey and demographic reports about religion. She was a contributor to the Center’s report on gender differences in religious commitment. Prior to joining Pew Research Center, she was a long-time reporter at The Washington Post, where her last assignment was covering religion. During her career at the Post, she also served as a foreign correspondent in South Africa and the Middle East. After leaving the Post, she worked in Saudi Arabia for three years as an independent journalist. She received the Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting in 1991 for her coverage of the 1990 Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. She is the author of two books, Passion for Islam and A Kingdom’s Future: Saudi Arabia Through the Eyes of Its Twentysomethings.
