Children’s Safety and Well-Being in the Age of AI: Best Practices and Incentives

Artificial intelligence is becoming part of how children learn, create, communicate and play, offering new opportunities for education, accessibility and creativity. At the same time, generative, conversational and agentic AI can introduce or intensify risks through personalization, persuasion, memory and increasingly autonomous action. Protecting children thus requires an approach that advances safety alongside agency, privacy, inclusion, development and human connection.

Children’s Safety and Well-Being in the Age of AI: Best Practices and Incentives provides a set of best practices for actors across the AI life cycle spanning the topics of age-appropriate design, beneficial use, harmful interactions, privacy, learning, accountability and inclusion. The report also explores how regulation, procurement, assurance, investment, shared infrastructure and organizational accountability can create stronger incentives for implementation. Together, these approaches aim to ensure that children can benefit from AI while remaining safer, more capable, connected and able to exercise their rights.
