Investing in trees: global companies are restoring forests
Conserving and restoring degraded forest landscapes are essential to combating global climate change and preventing biodiversity loss. Learn how companies are doing their part.
Conserving, restoring and growing 1 trillion trees by 2030 is achievable
Trees and forests are a critical part of the solution to the climate crisis and biodiversity collapse. That’s why we aim to mobilize, connect, and empower the global reforestation community to conserve, restore and grow one trillion trees by 2030.
We are part of the World Economic Forum’s work to accelerate nature-based solutions in support of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), supported by funding from Marc and Lynne Benioff from the Marc R. Benioff Foundation.
1t.org is set up to support systems change by catalyzing action in three mutually reinforcing areas, as shown in our Theory of Change:
1. Mobilizing private-sector ambition and engagement
1t.org provides a global leadership platform for companies from all sectors and regions. Participating companies commit to action for forest conservation, restoration and reforestation, act with integrity and transparency, and demonstrate leadership in support of the global restoration movement.
2. Facilitating regional multistakeholder partnerships
1t.org facilitates regional multistakeholder partnerships to accelerate the implementation of conservation, restoration and reforestation goals in key geographies. 1t.org’s portfolio of regional platforms currently includes the US, the Amazon and the Great Green Wall Initiative for the Sahel.
3. Inspiring innovation and ecopreneurship
1t.org supports the acceleration of the global ecopreneurship movement at the grassroots level. This includes a series of UpLink Challenges and Accelerator programmes, collaboration with youth networks, capacity-building opportunities and communication channels.
The Trillion Trees Challenge is a global call for solutions, initiatives, fresh perspectives and ideas to help meet the trillion trees goal. It lives on UpLink, a digital platform to crowdsource top innovations for the Sustainable Development Goals. Our first challenge finished in September 2020, and several more are slated for 2021.
If you are an innovator looking for support, sign-up on UpLink and add your solution. Specific regional challenges will be run on a continuous basis as part of our engagement in priority regions – make sure you look out for the latest live Trillion Trees Challenge.
