Yaman Okur

Breakdancer, Choreographer and Photographer, Yamsonite

Award winning French-Turkish break-dancer, choreographer and photographer Yaman Okur discovered dance and more particularly hip-hop as a teenager. Renowned for his unique rhythmic qualities and the absolute control of his body, he is the recipient of a multitude of awards including French Champion and World Champion Break-dancer. As a choreographer and professional dancer, he has collaborated with some of the world’s leading artists including The Black-Eyed Peas, Pharrell, and Bruno Mars. For over a decade he was the choreographer and dancer for Madonna. In 1999, at the age of 22, Yaman experienced first-hand the earthquake that devastated Turkey. As a result, over the past 24 years Yaman has been taking striking auto portraits which feature him suspended in mid-air capturing the moment he is airborne and suspended above the ground. Today, through his #PICSONITE project, Yaman uses his unique photographic style combined with film and performance to create programmes for children and young adults who are vulnerable due to illness, poverty, exile or/and with no easy access to art.
