1981, Bachelor's in Printmaking, and 1987, Master's in Fine Arts, Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing (CAFA). Moved to the United States in 1990. Currently lives and works in Beijing and New York. 1999, awarded a MacArthur Fellowship. 2015, awarded the Medal of Arts, U.S. Department of State’s Office of Art in Embassies (AIE). Artwork has been widely collected by and exhibited at major art museums and institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the British Museum in London.
