Vuyo Jack

Vuyo Jack founded Empowerdex with Chia-Chao Wu in June 2001, with the primary aim of accelerating economic development in Africa through the use of innovative financing mechanisms. Empowerdex introduced the concept of BEE ratings in South Africa, after extensive consultation with Moodys' London office. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant at the end of 2000, after completing his articles with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). In March 2003 he was appointed to the Black Economic Empowerment Task Team to advise the Minister of Trade and Industry on the BEE legislation and the BEE guidelines to help companies implement BEE in a sustainable manner. Throughout this period he was an BEE adviser to several government ministries. In 2008 he set up a think tank called Africa Empowered which is a catalyst of interaction between companies that have economic opportunities to engage with those that seek opportunities at the grass-root level. Jack currently sits on the Accounting Standards Board in South Africa and is a visiting professor at the University of the Free State School of Management.
