Susan E. Alcock

Director, Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World, Brown University

Studies at Yale and University of Cambridge. Has taught at Michigan and Brown universities. Worked in Greece and Armenia. Currently involved in fieldwork in Jordan, at and near the site of Petra, sparking her interest in how archaeologists can contribute to debates about sustainable development. Current research interests include the Hellenistic and Roman eastern Mediterranean, landscape archaeology, and the archaeologies of memory and imperialism. Recipient, MacArthur Fellowship (2001).
