1958, BA, St. David's Univ. College, Wales; 1961, Barrister-at-Law, The Middle Temple, London; 1978, Postdoctoral Grant, Social Science Research Council, New York. Scholar, publisher, activist and founder of many organizations. 1963, Founder, Sangkhomsaat Paritat (Social Science Review). 1960s, participated in a number of service-oriented, rural development projects. 1970s, central figure in a number of NGOs in Siam; developed indigenous, sustainable, and spiritual models for change; has expanded work to regional and int'l levels. Co-Founder: Asian Cultural Forum on Development; International Network of Engaged Buddhists; Spirit in Education Movement. While in exile after 1976 coup, served as Visiting Professor, universities in US and Europe; continued activist work. Returned to Bangkok but was forced into exile again in 1991. Returned in 1992. Author of more than 100 books and monographs in Thai and English, including Seeds of Peace: A Buddhist Vision for Renewing Society and Conflict, Culture, Change: Engaged Buddhism in a Globalizing World. Recipient of numerous honours and awards, including Right Livelihood Award (1995).
