Steve Suryadinata

Chairman, Mata Investments

Steve Suryadinata is the Founder of Mata Group (formerly Mata Investments) operating across real assets, digital infrastructure, and strategic sectors. He was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.

He comes from a family with roots in the mining industry and was previously a major shareholder in Southeast Asia’s largest coking coal assets, later listed on the London Stock Exchange. However, since 2015, he has adopted an impact-driven approach and divested from the sector.

Among the group’s key platforms is a digital infrastructure business at the forefront of enterprise cyber-risk, data security, and AI-driven intelligence. The platform integrates advanced cybersecurity and applied AI to support real-time risk intelligence and advanced threat analysis. It is embedded within core layers of the financial system and national-scale transaction environments. The platform is supported through strategic partnerships with global technology leaders such as Wiz (a $32 billion Google-backed platform). It also incorporates national-grade intelligence capabilities used by institutions including NATO to address coordinated misinformation and narrative-based threats.

One of the group’s core businesses is BSA Land, Indonesia’s largest property developer for the middle-class market. The company shifted from high-end developments to serving middle-income families and today leads in the private sector to ease Indonesia's 13 million housing backlog. With 30 projects nationwide, the company has delivered over 20,000 residential and commercial units, while invigorating nearly 10,000 SMEs through its cost-efficient commercial developments.

Within the mobility sector, Steve co-founded SM Group and serves as its Chairman, leading the development of one of Indonesia’s largest electric vehicle (EV) dealership networks. Through partnerships with global automotive leaders such as Chery Group and Geely (a global conglomerate with significant stakes in Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, and Polestar), the group plays an active role in accelerating the adoption of sustainable transportation across Indonesia. SM Group also serves as the distributor for QJMotor, China’s largest premium motorcycle manufacturer and the parent company of the historic Italian brand Benelli.

Steve was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2022. He is a member of YPO (Young Presidents' Organization) and appointed as the Chief Representative for the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia. He holds an MBA from Duke University, a BCom in Finance from Macquarie University and completed the Global Leadership and Public Policy program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

Outside of work, Steve is an avid martial arts enthusiast. He founded Bali MMA, which was ranked among the Top 10 MMA Gyms in Asia by Fox Sports. The competition team is now widely regarded as one of the most competitive in Brazilian Jiujitsu, Mixed Martial Arts, and Kickboxing, boasting world champions and athletes from over a dozen countries.

Steve resides between Singapore and Jakarta.
