Stephen Scherr currently serves as Co-President of Pretium, a specialized investment firm focused on residential real estate equity and debt, as well as residential credit. In this role, he is a member of Pretium’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors, helping shape the firm’s strategic vision, investment approach, and organizational advancement.
Stephen was chief financial officer of Goldman Sachs from 2018 through 2021, after serving as chief strategy officer of the firm, during which time the bank undertook considerable growth across new and existing businesses. He was a long-standing member of the firm’s Management Committee, led the Firmwide Risk Committee for many years and managed several of the firm’s most important businesses during his tenure. Following his career at Goldman Sachs, Stephen was Chairman and CEO of the Hertz Corporation from 2022 to 2024.
Stephen serves on the boards of the Jewish Museum and the New York Stem Cell Foundation. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He earned an AB from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University in 1986 and a JD from Harvard Law School in 1990.
