1993, joined International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF); 2014, elected as General Secretary. ITF is a global union federation of 670 trade unions representing 18.5 million workers in 147 countries in the seafaring, port, road, rail and aviation sectors. Has focused on making a real difference in the lives of transport workers and influencing leading industry players in the transport sector. Recipient, the United Seamen’s Service (USS) Admiral of the Ocean Sea Award (AOTOS) (2014), the maritime industry’s most prestigious award, in recognition of work defending the wellbeing and fair treatment of seafarers around the world.
