Noriko is a senior researcher at the Research Institute for Regional and Urban Development (ILS) in Dortmund, Germany and holds a position as an Associate Professor at Cyber Media Centre in Osaka University. She has a PhD in Urban Design from Oxford Brookes University in the UK. She worked as a senior consultant at TRL (Transport Research Laboratory) Limited in the UK and gained research experience at ETH Zurich and the University of Basel in Switzerland. Her research interests relate to urban design, walkability, and urban node accessibility in the context of Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T). She has carried out a number of research and consultancy projects in the fields of urban and transport planning and is currently leading an EU funded project assessing the accessibility of different transport modes (e.g. public transport, shared mobility and walking) between rail station and urban area along TEN-T Core Network Corridors. She is a qualified architect in Japan and has ten-year experience as a project architect and a quantity surveyor at Takenaka Corporation which is one of the five biggest general construction companies in Japan.
