Mr. Takashima joined The Sumitomo Bank, Limited (now SMBC) in 1982.
He has spent a number of years in the global banking arena and has held key management positions in Tokyo and New York. In April 2008, he became General Manager of the Planning Department, International Banking Unit, and became an Executive Officer of SMBC in April 2009.
From April 2010 to March 2012, Mr. Takashima, as Executive Officer and General Manager of the Corporate Planning Department, was responsible for bank-wide planning and strategy.
From April 2012 to March 2014, Mr. Takashima held the post of Managing Executive Officer and CEO of the Americas Division of SMBC.
In April 2014, he was promoted to Senior Managing Executive Officer, Member of the Management Committee, and took the position of Co-Head of the International Banking Unit. In December 2016, Mr. Takashima took on the added responsibility of an SMBC Director .
In April 2017, Mr. Takashima was appointed as President and CEO of SMBC. In June 2017, he was appointed as a Director of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Inc., SMBC’s parent company.
In April 2023, Mr. Takashima was named Chairman of the Board, SMBC.
Mr. Takashima holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Faculty of Law, Kyoto University and a Master of Laws degree from the Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California, Berkeley. He is married with two sons. He enjoys reading and is an avid concertgoer.
