Latifa is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at King Saud University, and a visiting researcher at the University of Liverpool. She has also worked as Artificial intelligence Advisor to the Saudi Government, leading the national strategic direction of AI and AI governance, as a contributor to G20 AI policy, and at different international organisations including the OECD and ITU. She is also a member in the UNESCO Ad hoc Expert Group (AHEG) for the recommendation on the ethics of Artificial Intelligence with global experts.

Latifa obtained her Ph.D. in Computer Science in AI and Law from the University of Liverpool in 2017, and earned her M.Sc. degree (with distinction) in the domain of dialogues in multi-agent systems (autonomous systems) and a PGD in Software Engineering.

She developed “ANGELIC”, a methodology for analysing legal cases to predict case opinions in the U.S. Supreme Court ( explainable legal prediction). After that, she worked in collaboration with Thomson Reuters and Weightmans law firm in applying her methodology to different legal case domains in the U.K.

In addition, she has represented Saudi Arabia in many global discussions and focus groups around AI. She is also a member in the IEEE Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems (EADe), the International Association for Artificial Intelligence and Law, and Athena SWAN, a charter for empowering women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

Latifa was a speaker at many international conferences, prestigious universities, and published number of research papers. Her research interests are in the areas of applying AI in the legal domain including legaltech and regtech, explainable AI and trustworthy AI. Furthermore, She has been selected as one of 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics for 2020, and one of the women defining the 21st century AI movement in Forbes list.
