Hu Shuli

Hu Shuli is the founder and publisher of Caixin Media, professor of the School of Journalism and Communication at Sun Yat-sen University.
Internationally recognized for her achievements in journalism, Ms Hu was named one of the World’s Greatest Leaders by Fortune in 2017. She was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2014 and Missouri Honor Medal for Distinguished Service in Journalism in 2012. She was listed among Top 100 Influential People of 2011 by Time magazine. The Caixin editorial team under her leadership won the 2011 Shorenstein Journalism Award from Stanford University. In 2009 and 2010, she was twice named one of Top 100 Global Thinkers by Foreign Policy magazine. In 2007, she received the Louis Lyons Award for Conscience and Integrity in Journalism from the Nieman Foundation at Harvard University. In 2006, Ms Hu was named China’s most powerful commentator by the Financial Times, and The Wall Street Journal cited her as one of Asia’s Ten Women to Watch. Ms Hu was named International Editor of the Year by the World Press Review in 2003 and one of BusinessWeek magazine’s Fifty Stars of Asia in 2001.
Ms Hu serves as a global board member of United Way Worldwide, a member of the International Media Council of the World Economic Forum, and an honorary adviser of the Asia New Zealand Foundation.
She was awarded the honorary doctorate degree from Princeton University in 2016.
