Bachelor’s in Engineering, University of São Paulo; MBA, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Twenty-eight-year career in the banking and financial sectors, including as: President, BankBoston Corporation; Chairman, Lazard Americas; Senior Adviser, Kohlberg Kravis and Roberts (KKR); Chairman of the Advisory Board, Bedrock; Member of the Council, Lloyd’s of London; and Member of the Board of Directors, Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras. 2002, elected Congressman in Brazil, representing the State of Goiás. 2003-10, Governor of the Central Bank of Brazil. From 2016 to 2018, Minister of Finance of Brazil. Former Member of the Advisory Board: Harvard Kennedy School of Government; Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); Carroll School of Management at the Boston College. Former Head, Associação Viva o Centro, an NGO he founded in the 1990s for the revitalization of the downtown area in São Paulo. In December 2018, he was appointed by João Doria, governor of São Paulo, to the position of State Secretary of Finance and Planning.
