The University of Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano was founded on 5 February 1954 during a time of historic transformation in Colombia. One of its main strengths is its faculty, which is highly qualified in terms of academic background, experience and record in the professional and research fields. The University has four large departments. All academic programmes use an academic credit system. Tadeo University is present in the Caribbean region of the country through a regional campus in Cartagena and a smaller satellite campus in Santa Marta.
