Inspired by nature, informed by data: community science for urban nature
Mission: Empowering residents to monitor biodiversity on their doorsteps and take action for nature in their neighbourhoods
A unique, Bristol-based partnership is pioneering new frontiers for action-led, multi-platform community science to help people understand and unlock their individual potential to create change and take positive action for nature.
Building on 2 years of remote and digital engagement to empower audiences, the Natural History Consortium has developed a ground-breaking, collaborative hybrid programme of digital experiences, community science activities and volunteering opportunities, connecting local lived experiences with regional, national and international conservation and policy context.
By seeking out and recording local wildlife, not only do participants feel better connected to their environment and learn about the creatures that inhabit it, but they contribute data to local databases informing conservation, management, and research in response to the city’s Ecological Emergency declaration.
