FFLA was created in response to the needs of Latin America, identified at the Conference of the United Nations on the Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. There is a clear need for leadership in discussions on sustainable development aimed at the long term and to incorporate dialogue for the coordination and integration of the negotiations. FFLA's mission is to promote constructive dialogue; strengthen citizen, political and institutional capacities; and integrate processes for sustainable development in Latin America.
