The Development Alternatives Group was the first social enterprise to promote and implement action aimed at sustainable development with a commercially viable business model. It includes the non-profits DA for innovation and TARA for incubation, and the for-profit company TARAlife for implementation. Their objectives are to innovate and disseminate the means for creating sustainable livelihoods and to mobilize widespread initiatives to eradicate poverty and regenerate the environment. Over its 35-year lifespan, the DA Group has earned or raised more than $200 million and has implemented some 900 projects, including the creation of more than 2,000 local enterprises, jobs and livelihoods.
