Amazon Environmental Research Institute (IPAM)

The Amazon Environmental Research Institute is one of the principal, non-profit and non-governmental research and policy institutes in the Amazon and in Brazil. It was founded in May 1995 in Belem in Pará State. IPAM is a significant actor in the REDD+ landscape in Brazil. IPAM influenced the establishment of the Amazon Fund and the evolution of the REDD+ mechanism.

Other examples of IPAM's involvement include its contribution to the development of the Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ Pilot Programme in Acre, in which is it partnering with the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and other organisations. IPAM has also been involved in promoting linkages between agricultural commodity roundtables and REDD+ financing, such as through reviewing the compatibility of the monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of greenhouse gas emissions of different initiatives to facilitate linkages between agricultural certification systems and REDD+.
