Virtual China Business Roundtable Spring

30 mar–3 abril 2020 Beijing, People's Republic of China

As the world enters a new decade, Covid-19 threatens to significantly disrupt the global economic, political, and social order. Industries and institutions, both inside and outside China, are facing existential challenges. As the pandemic continues to redefine economic and social norms, Chinese business leaders and industries need to rapidly adapt to an evolving situation, grasping new trends and opportunities, in order to survive and thrive once the emergency is over. The experiences of enterprises following the SARS outbreak in 2003 demonstrated exceptional innovation and possibilities could emerge out of a crisis.

At this critical moment, the World Economic Forum will host its Virtual China Business Roundtable convening more than 500 top business leaders, public figures, and scholars to participate in over 10 online discussions over the course of a week.

At these sessions, participants will receive high-level briefings from top-level Chinese and international scholars and have the opportunity to hear insights on the global pandemic situation and its impact on the economy from policymakers and international organisations. Participants will be able to share challenges in key industries with other top business and professional leaders. Together through online networking and discussion, the Roundtable will develop and discuss new solutions and best practices for dealing with the current crisis and looking ahead to chart a course through a changing global economy. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, participants can find inspiration and new ideas for structural transformation and technological innovation, which will help them build more durable and more resilient organisations for the future.

On the agenda, participants will discuss:

Economic Impacts and recovery: The pandemic has ground the global economy to a halt. Facing this kind of existential threat, how can business leaders persevere through this challenging period and develop robust post-crisis business models?

Technology Innovation: Technology has played an essential role during the crisis providing the means for governments and NGOs to track and try and contain the spread of Covid-19. It also allowed companies and industries to develop new ways of working, reaching customers, and managing supply chains. How do business leaders continue to embrace technology innovation and grasp the next opportunity?

Sustainable development: The current crisis has dramatically demonstrated the interconnectedness and interdependence of our world. More than over, local leaders need to consider global solutions. How can industries collaborate and innovate to contribute to long-term viability and sustainability?
