Stephan Mergenthaler

Managing Director, Chief Technology Officer and Head of Artificial Intelligence, World Economic Forum

Stephan Mergenthaler is Managing Director at the World Economic Forum. As Chief Technology Officer, he oversees the Forum’s technology and digital innovation strategy as well as its global portfolio of AI initiatives. During his tenure at the Forum, he initiated a range of cross-sector coalitions and partnerships, notably the Forum’s Strategic Intelligence practice, the Global Foresight Network as well as the Global Government Technology Centre. Earlier in his career, he served as a research associate at the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin and worked at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London. He holds an MSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics, an MA from Sciences Po Paris and a PhD in political science from Humboldt University of Berlin. During his doctorate he was a visiting researcher at Peking University’s School of International Studies.
