Drought Has Made It Possible to Walk to San Biagio, an Italian Island

San Biagio is a tiny island in the middle of Lake Garda. Usually, it’s only accessible by boat, but low water levels have revealed a strip of land connecting it to the shore, making it possible to walk or even cycle across. Lake Garda is experiencing its lowest winter water levels in 30 years. They’re 65cm below their usual level. Normally, snow melt helps fill the lake, but the Alps have received less than half their snowfall. Lake Garda is seeing an off-season boom as tourists flock to walk to San Biagio. But locals are hoping a rainy March will return things to normal. Watch for more details.
