Bangladesh is vulnerable to natural disasters. Here’s how it has learnt to cope

Bangladesh is one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries. The country is prone to disasters such as cyclones, flooding and landslides. But in the past 50 years Bangladesh has made a lot of progress on climate resilience. Its journey began when it was hit by the deadliest cyclone in recorded history. In 1970 Cyclone Bhola took the lives of 300,000 people. Today, cyclones of comparable intensity cause 99% fewer fatalities in Bangladesh thanks to decades of investment in climate resilience.
