Chizuru Suga

Director for Digital Economy, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan

Chizuru Suga joined the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution from the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), where she developed policy expertise in a range of fields related to technology and regulation, including market-regulation reforms in finance, education and healthcare, and served as Chief Deputy Director of the ministry’s Commerce and Service Industry Policy Group. A project team led by Chizuru published “Anxious Individuals, a Nation at a Standstill,” a set of bold policy recommendations for creating a sustainable ageing society that was downloaded a remarkable 1.5 million times and led to two published books. At the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution Japan, Chizuru oversees projects related to data governance, healthcare data policy, next-generation mobility, smart cities and other fields. She holds an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. in Law from the University of Tokyo.
