Soil is home to two-thirds of life on Earth, say scientists

59% of the planet’s biodiversity is found in the soil, says a new study. Including 85% of plants, 90% of fungi, over 50% of bacteria and a fifth of worms and molluscs. Scientists used data analysis to reach the figures. Previously, soil was thought to contain just 25% of all species. The new estimate is more than double that. Making soil the most diverse habitat on Earth.
