Alexandria has survived empires, earthquakes and fires Can it survive climate change?

This video is part of: Centro para la Naturaleza y el Clima

Egypt’s second-largest city was founded more than 2,300 years ago. Over that time many invading armies have besieged, conquered and plundered the city. But today Alexandria is being threatened by a very different enemy. Climate change is fuelling sea-level rise around the world and the Mediterranean is rising faster than the average. Alexandria’s sandy coastline is receding by 3.5 metres every year as a result and is the most vulnerable coastal zone in the whole Mediterranean basin, according to a recent report.
