Professor of Economics and Founding Director, Access to Knowledge for Development Center (A2K4D), American University in Cairo’s School of Business. Teaching, research and advocacy focus on advancing role of knowledge and technology as drivers for human development. Research interests lie in the economics of knowledge, technology and human development with focus on digital platforms, entrepreneurship, innovation, data, intellectual property and business models in the digital economy, with emphasis on Egypt, the Arab world and Africa. Leads the Open Data for Development Node for the Middle East and North Africa, and co-directs the Open African Innovation Research Partnership.
