BA in History, University of Puget Sound; DPhil in International Relations and Rhodes Scholar, University of Oxford. Former: Director, Strategy, HD Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue; Vice-President, International Peace Institute; Director, Conflict Prevention and Peace Forum. 2009-12, Principal Policy Adviser and Counsellor to the Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations, Susan Rice; lead US negotiator on the Post-2015 Development Agenda. 2012-14, US Ambassador to the UN Economic and Social Council and Alternate Representative to the UN General Assembly; led US diplomacy at the UN on human rights, humanitarian, social and environmental issues. Served with UN political missions in Nepal and the Middle East; worked as an analyst in conflict zones. Has written widely on conflict management, peace processes, state-building and the United Nations. Honorary Doctorate, University of Puget Sound.
