Seawater Solutions

Seawater Solutions is a multi-award-winningstart-up based in Glasgow that helps communities around the world build integrated wetland farms in which coastal wetlands are constructed for climate adaptation and seawater agriculture. Coastal wetlands, like mangroves, seagrass meadows, and saltmarshescan support an impressive array of food products like seafood, saline vegetables, and carbon credits. Since 2017, the young team have launched wetland farms in countries as far away as Ghana, Vietnam, and Bangladesh to support communities at the frontlines of climate change. In 2021 alone, over 100,000 mangroves were planted in Ghana to support local aquaculture production and to promote wildlife. A key benefit of the integrated system is to alleviate the threat that salinized lands present for farming, providing an alternative to the millions of farmers at risk of losing their land due to this threat. Over 40 different commercial crops have been grown using seawater to date.
