Future of Last Mile Ecosystem

Last mile delivery faces unprecedented disruption, particularly in urban areas, as the rapid growth of e-commerce reshapes how goods reach consumers. This disruption provides both a challenge and opportunity for cities. The regulatory environment tightens, with the linked fights against climate change and congestion driving stricter control over access, emissions, and curb use. The need for intervention has never been greater since the induced demand for last mile delivery due to the global pandemic.

The Future of Last Mile Ecosystem project will an integrated and quantified view on 'the future of the last-mile ecosystem', offering solutions to both private and public players. The overall objective of this initiative is to facilitate public-private cooperation by providing an ecosystem view and analysis of the urban last mile growth. This is done by deriving quantified, data-driven and cross- sectoral insights on ecosystem trends and implications on congestion, carbon emissions and economic activity. Using these analysis, roadmaps of transition scenarios for private and public sector as well as cities/municipalities are designed.
