Stephane Oertel

Studies in Human Sciences at the University of Oxford and Master Degree in Development Studies from the London School of Economics. Stéphane then worked as a Business Analyst for a global management consultancy in London, U.K. Because his real interest was in economic and development issues, he then joined an NGO in a remote area of Tanzania as a volunteer. After a few months, he undertook an internship at the Directorate-General for Development of the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium working on project financing and evaluation. Later he joined the United Nations as a Junior Programme Officer in Islamabad, Pakistan working on governance and election issues, and later in Geneva as a Liaison Officer working on inter-agency coordination. Since passing the UN global recruitment examination in Economics, Stéphane has worked as an Economic Affairs Officer for the UN Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He is also a Global Leadership Fellows Programme of the World Economic Forum in Geneva, Switzerland. After working in the Africa department there he was appointed to Associate Director of the Global Risk Team until he and his family moved to Bangkok, Thailand in 2011 where he worked on several short-term assignments and consultancies for multilateral agencies and companies. Currently, he is Deputy Director for the Asia-Europe Foundation.
