Master’s in Law; Master’s in Criminology; specialist in Air Law and Aviation Security, UK - USA. Formerly: with the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office, gaining experience in the prosecution and trial of major criminal cases, including terrorism (GIA Islamic Armed Group), organized crime (Cali Drugs Cartel) and murder (serial killer András Pándy); nine years as an expert in aviation security, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), in charge of anti-terrorism training related to aircraft sabotage and hijacking. 1997-2002, one of three Belgian National Prosecutors in charge of the coordination of judicial and police efforts in combating terrorism and organized crime throughout Belgium. From January 2001, represented Belgium, Pro-Eurojust; June 2001, President; 2007-12, Vice-President, Eurojust. May 2012, appointed President, Eurojust by the Council of Ministers of the European Union following election by the College of Eurojust. May 2015, re-elected. National Member for Belgium, Eurojust and Chair, Eurojust’s Counter-Terrorism Team. Deputy Prosecutor-General. November 2017, appointed Executive Director, United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate, Assistant Secretary-General. Honorary Fellow, Law and Criminology, University of Brussels (Vrije Universiteit Brussel). Visiting Professor, School of Law, Queen Mary University of London. Holds the noble title of Baroness.
