Masayuki Morikawa

Masayuki Morikawa is the Vice President, Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI). He joined the then Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in 1982 and has held a variety of positions at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), including as the Director of the Macroeconomic Affairs Division, Industrial Structure Policy Division and the Deputy Director-General of the Economic and Industrial Policy Bureau. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Kyoto University. His area of expertise includes economic policy, industrial structure, and productivity analysis. He has published in several academic journals includingEconomics Letters, Energy Economics, Labour Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, and Small Business Economics. His recent book Productivity in Service Industries: Empirical analyses using microdata (Nippon Hyoronsha Co., Ltd. 2014) [in Japanese] was awarded the prestigious 57th Nikkei Prize for Excellent Books in Economic Science in November 2014.
