Andreas Obrecht is the policy lead in the Nature Action Agenda team of the World Economic Forum. He brings 15 years of experience in international environmental policy and governance. After completing an MSc in Geography at the University of Bern in Switzerland, he began his international career in 2009 by organizing conferences for the World Meteorological Organization. He then served as the Swiss national focal point and negotiator for the Convention on Biological Diversity, IUCN and other biodiversity-related international agreements and institutions before moving to Nairobi to manage the biodiversity desk of the Law Division at the United Nations Environment Programme.
Upon returning from Nairobi, Obrecht became the managing director of SDSN Switzerland, a partnership of academic institutions, public entities, business organizations and other non-governmental organizations with the common objective of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Switzerland. Before joining the Forum, Obrecht worked as a consultant for biodiversity policy with a range of public and private organizations and worked at the Group on Earth Observations leading the development of their strategy for post-2025.
